This was really easy to make with Windows Movie Maker. Please comment. There have been so many changes since I last posted here!
I want to finish answering these questions from a previous blog:
I like this picture. To answer question #2 from the list below:
Whatever challenges I faced last school year, most of them were of my own making. I love teaching, but I am NOT a people person. I don't do small talk well. I can't hide my impatience. I need to learn to show more kindness and less sarcasm. One challenge that was NOT of my making was the debacle over testing. I got very frustrated because there never seemed to be a clear plan for all of us to follow. That's all for now. I am now fairly certain that I will teach levels 2-4 in the morning and at night. This is good for me, because I can plan better knowing I'll be teaching the same levels. Also, I'm happy that I will be accompanying some of my level 1 students as they move up to level 2.
In my last post I posed some questions to myself about how my classes went this past semester. The first question, "How did it go?" is really hard to answer in a few words, but I'll try. It went fairly well. There were several challenges and things that I could improve, (more about those later) but the students that stuck with it all made significant progress. I always find that whatever I thought were reasonable goals, only about 75% are actually reached. This has been a strange school year for many different reasons, personal and professional. It was my second full year teaching ESL and I guess the honeymoon is over. I'm struggling to adjust my expectations from those I had when I was teaching Adult Basic Ed. and Speech. I really miss being able to talk at length and feel confident that my students understood most of what I said. In many ways, I enjoy ESL more because the students are so enthusiastic. Next time, question #2 - What challenges did I face? I was reading another teacher's blog: http://learnerlog.org, and I found these questions thought-provoking.
Right now, I'm enjoying the luxury of time. I've started Zumba again, and soon I'll be starting yoga and dance classes. We're almost finished with winter, but spring is right around the corner.
My students have been preparing some posters for Showcase Night on March 8. Here are the morning class posters. On Monday we're going to add student pictures taken by Abraham Morales; thanks, Abraham. And thank you, Emily, for this pic. We've had a great first three weeks. Now it's two weeks of vacation. Here are some pictures from the class parties. |
